Everyone has their own story; and just like the beautiful pieces of driftwood that wash up on Hawaii's beaches, each one is unique and intricate in its details.
Driftwood Films is about connecting with amazing people and capturing their magical stories in lifetime mementos. Taking this personalized approach ensures that the final cinematic delivery feels unique to you and your loved ones and that we've all had a wonderful time watching your story unfold.
We hope that you'll stay a while and get to know us, take a look around, and socialize with us. There is so much more to come and we would be thrilled to have you share in all the stories yet to be told.
Our shared interests in the visual arts has created a strong friendship, which is the foundation of Driftwood Films. We hope our love for what we do will shine and foster lasting memories for all we are fortunate to partner with.
Yukio Kina’s roots in video go all the way back to his childhood when he was using his father’s camcorder to make his own movies. The thrill of bringing an idea to life and being able to share it through video was nothing short of magic and expanded his love of visual arts to include photography. To him, video and photo can be used equally to tell a story, but with very different effects.
Our primary video editor, Ryota Komai, has been shooting since 2006 when his passion for movies grew into a desire to create his own stories. Ryota believes that enjoyment for everyone involved is an important part of video production. Part of his joy and drive for the art comes from viewing the completed product.
Marie’s journey with photography has been one filled with opportunities and whimsy. Starting with simple portraits and capturing the world around her quickly changed when she began to connect and collaborate with other creative pros. Marie realized how deeply she had fallen in love with what she can now call her own art.
Dawn assumes all roles as needed to ensure the general happiness and sanity of the Driftwood team. Water fetcher, chauffeur, lens changer, audio hooker-upper, email responder, client liaison, and human light stand. But as Dawn has recently found a love for being a part of capturing your special moments, we’re actively putting her behind the camera to offer one more perspective of your day.
We get the opportunity to share in so many memorable weddings. Really, every single wedding we do leaves us with something special to look back on. And Jenny & Rhod’s big day was definitely no exception. Not only did they participate in the usual ceremony that we all know and love, but they also held a ceremony earlier in the day to honor the traditions of Jenny’s Korean heritage. From the wooden geese which symbolizes the groom’s life-long commitment to the bride, to the paebaek ritual of catching dates and chestnuts to ensure many healthy children, it was a very rich and colorful event that we really enjoyed being a part of.
The ceremonies, while both beautiful and heartfelt, were only a glimpse into the pure love and reverence that Jenny & Rhod have for one another. And we’re so very proud and honored that we could be there to catch all the little things before, during, and after the wedding ceremonies that showcase their wonderful relationship.

One year. It’s hard to believe that we’ve actually been in business now for a year. It really seems like just yesterday that we discussed potential names for our new company, or sat down at the bank to sign our approved loan papers, or arrived to film our very first wedding. But as 2015 nears a close,… Continue Reading
When we started Driftwood Films, we knew weddings were going to be our primary focus (no pun intended). But we also had a desire to be involved with one of the earliest and most amazing parts of a couple’s wedded bliss – the proposal. Continue Reading
All work and no play makes the Driftwood Films team…sad. Recently we were asked to film a wedding for some very close friends in Austin, Texas at the beautiful Cedar Bend Events venue; we took the time to explore the city and do what we do best…have a good time. Continue Reading
To say that the year so far has been exciting barely scrapes the surface. Continue Reading
Telling each of our client's stories is more than our job - it's our passion. So of course, making sure each couple is satisfied with us and our work is essential. This is why we absolutely love to hear back from every couple we work with. Whether praise or criticism, we welcome it all so that we can always better our craft and better ourselves.
So far we've gotten quite a bit of praise, and we're very thankful for the kind words from each of our couples!
